This appeal raises the question of whether discharge from civil commitment prior to the completion of appellate review renders
an appeal moot. We conclude that this appeal is not moot because collateral consequences attach to a commitment as mentally
ill due to the early intervention provisions of the Minnesota Commitment and Treatment Act, Minn. Stat.
253B.064-066 (1998). We reverse and remand to the court of appeals for review of the appeal on the merits.
